Do You Notice Anything Strange About This House?

We've been out driving around looking at neighborhoods and homes - trying to get a feel for where we are now living. We happened upon this neighborhood and aside from seeing six homes that were exactly the same being built on one side of the street - single family homes, not multifamily homes...we noticed this house:

Is it just me? or do you see something funky with it as well???

Sunbathing, Sweets, and Serenity

My husband got a new game and this fancy schmancy joystick so he could fly around in helicopters and play shootemup. He's actually pretty good at those shooting/flying games, and I'm sure he'd be thrilled if I enjoyed playing that genre, but truth is - I don't. Flying and shootemup games make me queasy. And that is the reason I stick to when explaining my inability to play them with any sort of talent.

In the past when I've tried them, I never seem to be shooting the right area, my target is WAY off, and watching me try to fly any sort of aircraft brings a good laugh to any onlookers.

Several years ago, my husband and I, along with some friends, went to Dave and Buster's. I thought I'd give a fancy schmancy machine gun game a whirl. It looked really neat and had these MASSIVE machine guns for you to hold on to. I was having a great time until some guy came up to me chuckling, "Uhhh, let me show you how to hold this...you're holding it backwards."

Like I knew! But my point is, it just doesn't come natural to me.

Put me in the driver's seat of a race car game, or in front of any pinball machine and I'm comfortable there.

My point in all this? Well, I decided since I am not into all that hoorah of flying and shooting, that I wanted my own treat to play with.

So we picked up an ice cream maker from Costco. Now, I realize something like that is really a treat for the whole family, but I've been dying to own one for a long time now, and in this heat - now was the perfect time. Plus, I'm the Mommy! It's my job to treat the family!

I made homemade french vanilla ice cream with mini chocolate chips. It is heavenly I can honestly say.

So, I just finished eating the ice cream cone shown above. I'm sure it's the last thing I should have been snacking on, but it was a perfect conclusion to my quiet lounge out on the grass in the sun while the munchkin is still nestled away in dreamland for naptime.

Mommy, Is This What You Meant?

I was busy getting cleaned up this morning while the little one was happily playing in her room amongst her mess of toys. Jokingly as I went to comb my hair, I said, "Ok, now here's your clothes! You go on and get yourself dressed while I go do my hair."

When I came back to check on her a few minutes later and to get her cleaned up for our outting, this is how she greeted me:

Apparently, getting dressed to a 16 month old means wearing your tank top around your ankles over the top of your pj bottoms and slipping on one slipper.

I actually was impressed that she attempted to get dressed to some degree.

It's amazing how quickly she's becoming independent.

Allergic No More - I Think?

If you've known me for any length of time, then you know I whine about being allergic to strawberries. Well, while I was in Oregon, I ate a fair amount of them and guess what! I didn't notice a single reaction!

So, with that test concluded, I am now thinking I am not allergic to strawberries any more and therefore will eat them at my leisure.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

The Move

From my perspective, the move was fantastic! I left all the boxes and packing and garage sales and painting and cleaning and and and early. I took the munchkin and we headed off for 16 days of relaxation in Oregon while my in-laws and husband took care of all the hoorah.

The day or so before we left, the little one made her presence definately known when she somehow managed to open up a gallon of white paint and dumped it over onto the nice hardwood floors in the kitchen - a good portion of it going onto her, and a good portion going all over the wood, into the creases of the hundred year old floor, and swishing around as if we had planned for a pool of paint to make a new home next to the sink.

I've never seen my family move so fast.

I, very carefully, carried the busy bee child of mine to the tub to wash her up. I was really concerned she was going to get the paint in her eyes and/or mouth. Success though. That didn't happen.

My husband and in-laws moved as if they were half mutants exercising their speedy superpowers in paint clean up. Amazingly enough, every last spec was cleaned up off the floor and they worked so quickly that none of it even set up in the creases of the floor boards.

All the paint even came out of everyone's clothes. Luck was definately on our side that day.

With that challenge behind us, although everyone loves the dear munchkin a lot, with all the work that still needed to be completed before the moving van pulled out of the driveway, the family wasn't exactly too broken hearted to see us fly off west.

We arrived in Oregon and while it was very relaxing not to have to pack or stress or anything of the moving sort, I had entirely new challenges to manage.

The house was not baby proofed. And even though I always wish and hope my husband would.do.more.to.help.me.out. I realized all that he does do since he wasn't around to do anything. So if the 16 days did nothing else, they at least taught me to be a bit more patient and appreciative for the help I do get. It sure would be a lot harder if I had to do this whole baby thing on my own day in and day out. Definate kudos to the single parents out there.

Arriving in California was amazing. Blue skies. Sunny. Palm trees!

And my husband and my in-laws had worked their tails off to get the house all situated and clean and organized so that me and my big pregnant behind wouldn't have to worry about a lot of unpacking. The kitchen was entirely set up, and despite any fit I might have had about 'but it's my kitchen and I want things in my own special spot'...I have to say, my mother in-law did a fantastic job. I've really had to move very few things to make myself feel comfy in the kitchen. And my husband knew just how I'd want all the furniture, so that was set up perfectly.

I have no complaints. I did toss a minor fit on the phone when my husband told me he threw out our old, icky pillows and bought brand new ones. I wanted to be part of the pillow buying process. Whatever. I was being mental. The pillows are great, and I guess I just needed something to be persnickety about.

I even have my very own potted palm tree on my back porch.

Life is good.

Gearing Up

All moved and getting settled!

I'm not quite sure I'm at a point where I can get back into blogging just yet, but I'm working at it.

I'm getting closer each day!
