Carb-o-holic

I'm addicted to carbs. I could never survive on Atkins. I have a hard time even thinking about others being on Atkins. The mere thought of giving up carbs makes me want to cuddle with a loaf of bread.
Tonight I'm making homemade fries. I snacked on french bread and crackers and a few croutons while I cut them up. I'm making fresh rolls tonight for the turkey burgers that we're having for dinner along with the fries.
I used to drive an hour to pick my husband up from work a few years ago. It was ~an hour each direction. On days when traffic was light, I loved stopping by my favorite deli in the world and getting a freshly made baguette and some of their cheese/pistachio/garlic spread. I'd sit in the car waiting for my husband to come out to meet me and just snack to my little heart's content.
I love toast in the morning. Bread and cheese or crackers and cheese for snacks. I love rolls with dinner. Potatoes, rice...you name it.
I'd rather eat less of something than give it up. I'd rather exercise by taking evening walks with a coffee in hand or go for a midday stroll to take in some fresh air to make up for what I eat.
And now I wait with great anticipation for the fresh fries I'll be eating tonight. And I'm off for a walk so I can thoroughly enjoy them!

I did the no carb thing and lost tons of weight. Only problem is your muscles suffer too. When I did it, I lost like 30lbs in two weeks but it came back and hasn't gone away yet. I love my carbs so I just have to work harder to keep them off. Atkins isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle choice. I think you can find a happy medium and enjoy life with a good mix of carbs and proteins while not starving yourself.
I think the previous post is the reason why the diet just can't work. The thing that raises my eyebrow is that people tend to gain back the weight just as quickly as they lose it, which is such an unhealthy thing. That puts a ton of strain on your heart and respiratory system.
The thing of it is, you need to keep your metabolism up and the only way to do that is to EXERCISE. Yes, that evil word that noone likes to do. I think after you hit a certain age, you lose a certain amount of muscle mass each year, which then affects your metabolism. Doing things like the Atkins definitely doesn't help in that respect.
I was always a little on the chubby side, even when I exercised religiously. After I had my first kid, I got BIG, and for a while I just accepted that I was always going to be that way. But one day I got so fed up with feeling lethargic and looking like crap and decided to make some big changes. So instead of taking up a fad diet, which would have been the easier thing to do, I went back to the gym and ate better. I lost about 35 pounds and people who hadn't seen me in years were in shock when they saw me. And you know what, I kept that weight off even when I no longer had time to exercise and had periods of "OMG I HAVE TO EAT CAKE". The key really is to never deprive yourself but to treat your body well.
Anyway, that's worked for me. Although, pretty soon I'm going to have to go on a diabetic diet, which is going to SUCK ASS. hehe
In John's defense, however, most of us would never be able to eat like you and not put on a ton of weight. Unless we somehow find the time to spend hours at the gym (going for a walk with a cup of coffee just would not do a thing for me, unfortunately). So consider yourself very lucky that you've been blessed with efficient metabolism - which I once had, until I hit 30. ;)
Heh, speak for yourself. I lost 7 pounds. But that was due to stress and whacked out pg hormones that I was unaware of.
