What's Your Burner?

While cooking dinner last night I realized that I am definately a back burner cook. If I'm not using all four burners on the stovetop, I use the back burners instead of the front ones. I'm not sure why I do this. So it got me to wondering if other people have burner preferences? Do you prefer the front burners to the back ones? Left burners over the right burners?

What's your burner?

On my stove, the two front burners are the "average powered" ones, the back right is the wimpiest, and the back left is the strongest. I most often use the front right one because I do all my food prep to the right of the stove. The strongest one I use for boiling stuff, the weakest one I use for simmering. I hardly ever use the front left one unless I happen to have a ton of stuff to cook.

I use the front burners first. This is probably because that is how my mom did it. However, I point the handles to the left, while she points them to the right. It must be because she is left handed and I am right handed. The burner that I use the least is the back right, due to it being so small. Maybe there is a Freud response to this…hmmm.

Front burner, though I'm changing to the back since my kids can barely reach the front burners now. I am much more aware of it than I would have been say, pre-parenthood.

At first I didn't know there were different sized gas burners. With electric, it's painfully obvious, but gas is hidden under this heavy grate-thing.
Now, I try to use little burners for little pots and the big burner I reserve for big pots.
